There is nothing guaranteed to drive you into insanity more convincingly than looking through thousands - and thousands - of CV's. We've just started re-casting DANNY - and my mind is already in jeopardy!
I have helped a couple of friends cast before... oh my god!! where to begin! it was certianly an eye opener... although it put the fear of god in me as to whether my cv will ever be looked at again!
Thankfully the inclusion of a £20 note gets it seen a little better...only kidding... i dont have any £20 notes! :(
Only just discovered the blog. I don't know whether its worse to have to sort through thousands of c.vs or as an actor to write a c.v for a part he'd really like to play in a play he'd like to be in such as Treasure Island & for which he thinks he is entirely suitable & to get no response . Nigel Nevinson
It's worse not to get a response, for sure. We try and see as many actors as possible for our shows - for TREASURE ISLAND we saw 300 actors. I'm sorry you weren't on the list but often there are mundance physical reasons, such as height, look etc. Next time we'll do our best...
Neal was born in Birmingham but it was an accident that led him back to his home town to create the BSC. He was looking for a theatre in which to base his fledgling company and remembered that in 1989 he had been shown round The Old Rep Theatre by the theatre manager. He was lucky that he second visit coincided with the arrival of a new manager, Neil Johnston, (and not just because his name was Neil). Mr Johnston was looking for a way to enhance the activity of the Old Rep and the two men's ambitions coincided perfectly. Neal moved his company into the theatre and the BSC was formed. Since then he has run the BSC as an actor/manager, appearing in many of the company's shows. He has most recently performed in their productions of TWELFTH NIGHT and SKELLIG (performing in New York, March 2011).
